It is not so much the amps ,but the voltage being put out . try the old stand by and start the Jeep and pull the negative feed off the battery,if it dies bad alt. If you want to know how well it is working if jeep stays running; take a voltmeter and check what you have coming off the wires . It should be charging the batteries at about 13.6 or so.

Now if you are looking to put on lights and bells and whistles ;you need to upgrade to a bigger output alt.The factory one will not hold up to fog lights, dommers, cb,air compressor,you get the idea.
