The 4.3L has 7 total , including bolts holding oil pan to trans. Also, there are 2 alignment guide pins that can be a pain sometimes, but other times they slide right apart
im puttin in a 96 jimmy engine in my 2000 blazer and there are 9 bolts..(had to go buy them at hardware store)...

You have to pull the engine or transmission. The Flex plate is at the back of the engine on an automatic transmission. 6-8 bolts hold the plate to the engine, and four bolts hold the plate to the tranny.
