How many churches are there in the world?
An estimate I saw about a year ago was 3.7 million Christian congregations. I believe there are around 67,000 denominations. There are close to 50,000 new congregations being added each year. I don't know how many are closing each year so I don't know if its net 50000 per year or not. Not much of this growth is in the US or Europe, but in South America, Africa and Asia. Vatican City is not a church but a separate state and the seat of Government for the entire Catholic Church. St. Peter's Basilica is located on the grounds of the Vatican and is the world's largest Catholic Church structure. Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, is another large church.
Answer . The second largest church in the world is St. Peter's Basilica. It's located in Rome.
The largest 'Church' structure in the world is St. Peter's Basilica in (Vatican City), Rome, Italy. Encompassing an area exceeding 1,200,000 sq metres, the area is vast and can accommodate in excess of 10,000 communicants. The building's construction was completed in 1626. The largest 'Cathedral'… structure in the world is the Cathedral Church of St John The Divine, located on Amsterdam Avenue on the west-side of Manhattan at 110th Street. Currently, St John's, affectionately referred to as 'Big John' stands at 480,000 sq metres. However, after over a hundred years of construction work, the Cathedral remains unfinished. The Cathedral's 'transept,' the transverse section which lies across the main body of the Cathedral, has yet to be built. This is the area set crosswise to the nave in a cruciform ("cross-shape"), completing the 'width' of the Cathedral. Still, despite St John's incomplete nature, it draws over ten-thousand communicants on days such as Christmas and Easter, and attracts thousands of visitors each week - many who are not Christian, due to the unique and profound memorials within the Cathedral. If you mean what is the largest church, as in religion then Islam would be the answer! ( Full Answer )

There are about 7 Billion Christian Churches Around the World . This answer does not compute. The math doesn't work, especially since a 'church' is not abuilding, but a congregation. I cannot find numbers on Christian congregations worldwide. ( Full Answer )
The answer to this question is almost impossible, as some Catholic churches, while still be recognized as such, have been put to other uses or turned into museums. As well, there are chapels and many other such designations that function as a church building but which are not registered as such. T…he closest statistic to your query is the number of parishes. The term "Christian" was coined by Roman authorities in Antioch, in present day Turkey near the border with Libya. So the locals argue that the first " Christian " Church is in the cave where the early Christians met. Barnabas and Paul spent some time there. It commanded a view of the valley so they posted lookouts to spot Roman troops coming to arrest them. There was a small escape cave through the back of the hill as well as caves up to the lookout posts. Today you can visit the cave and light a candle for a few cents (actually the attendant was too gracious to collect the fee). ( Full Answer )

There is only one Catholic Church, but there are different types of Catholic churches such as the eastern rite. The Eastern Rite Catholic church uses icons (pictures) instead of statues, has the gated altar and speaks partly in Latin and partly in the common language of the location. They all acknow…ledge the Pope as the ruler of their church. If the question is about church buildings, often simply called churches, there are probably hundreds of thousands of Roman Catholic church buildings. ( Full Answer )
POSITIVELY YES! World Harvest Church has changed from non denominational to becoming the world empire of Pentecostalism via the egoistic Parsley bunch. As someone who is a devout follower of Christ, I can can tell you from experience, World Harvest Church does not represent the totality of Jesus.… It is an organization founded by the Parsley family and kept secretive by them. The fundraising is questionable. The teaching and attitude of the people are estranged from full scripture teaching. They are totally dependent upon one man (Parsley) to bless them. The services are like a Hollywood set with a bunch of brainwashed fanatics. The church never provides financial statements or proof of legitimacy for the mission work like the Samaritans Purse or other accountable 501 c3 organizations do. The people or friends will disassociate themselves with you if you are not part of their circle. I've been to two services this year 2011 and the following are real events that happened: 1. Parsley was on stage laying hands on the choir singers, when he looked at a girl (she looked down like she was nervous) Parsley told her not to look away from him while he was looking at her, that there is blessing in my eyes and cursing in my frown. Wow! I was so shocked to here such a thing from a pastor. 2. I attended with my children, when Parsley was wanting his ushers to hand out oil vials (with his picture on them) for the followers. Upon his anger of the sluggish distribution, Parsley grabbed the vials of oil from the boxes and started throwing them at people in the audience. That was it for me! It has all the tall-tell signs of a cult. Be warned! According to definition a cult is described as the following: . S: (n) cult (followers of an exclusive system of religious beliefs and practices) . S: (n) fad, craze, furor, furore, cult , rage (an interest followed with exaggerated zeal) "he always follows the latest fads"; "it was all the rage that season" . S: (n) cult (followers of an unorthodox, extremist, or false religion or sect who often live outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader) . S: (n) cult (a religion or sect that is generally considered to be unorthodox, extremist, or false) "it was a satanic cult" . S: (n) cult , cultus, religious cult (a system of religious beliefs and rituals) "devoted to the cultus of the Blessed Virgin" ( Full Answer )

The bible said in the end many shall rise in my name, and some may even claim to be me, don't follow them they are here to deceive so many people. Am not saying these churches have false pastors in them no don't get me wrong, the number of churches are increasing but the number of churches that are …preaching the truth are very few, some are working for the devil to turn people who want to know the truth away from the truth., the people who go to this churches think they are at the right place unknown to them that they are not suppose to be there, don't forget they have a church called synagogue of Satan, who is Satan? he was thrown out of heaven to earth, what is his role here on earth? to make people praise him instead of God since God says my glory should not be shared with anybody which is part of the commandment thou shall have no other god before me, if they worship Satan it is a sin against God and that is what Satan is after turn people away from God. There is no "leader" of the Lutheran church in the world because there is no worldwide Lutheran church. There are approximately 150 Lutheran denominations throughout the world. Each of these churches has its own leader, and the authority of these leaders within their denominations differs considerab…ly from church to church because the ecclesiastical structure of these churches varies tremendously, from episcopal to synodical to congregational. Lutheranism is the only major branch of Christianity that lacks a standardized form of church government. Martin Luther did not regard church organization as particularly important. He contended that the Church is found wherever the Gospel is correctly preached and the Sacraments are properly administered. Lutherans therefore believe that the Church is defined by its theology rather than by its organizational structure. All Lutheran churches accept as their authority the Bible, and the three ecumenical creeds (the Apostle's Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed), and nearly all accept the authority of the Augsburg Confession of 1530. Most Lutheran churches also accept the Formula of Concord of 1580, which summarized Lutheran theology. Lutheranism's highly sophisticated and systematic theology has been one of its great strengths, and Lutherans have tended to regard theologians as their "leaders." The absence of a unified global church or at least a consistent form of government within individual churches arguably has been a weakness of Lutheranism. Although Lutherans have a high level of theological unity, the independence of Lutheran denominations creates at least some theological differences among the Lutheran churches of the world. While Lutherans tend to embrace a highly liturgical and "catholic" liturgy, each separate denomination is completely free to adopt its own form of worship, and liturgical practices vary among churches. Similarly, each church is free to make is own pronouncements about political and moral issues (e.g., abortion). In Scandinavia, where Lutheranism until recently embraced virtually the entire population, each nation has its own church (the Church of Sweden, the Church of Norway, the Church of Denmark, the Church of Finland, and the Church of Iceland). These Lutheran churches have largely preserved the episcopal structure of the pre-Reformation era. All of these churches are divided into dioceses led by bishops. The churches of Sweden and Finland maintain that their bishops have remained in the line of apostolic succession. Since the Scandinavian churches have been state churches, the government of those countries have been the ultimate source of authority in the churches. In Germany, the structure of the Lutheran church has been extremely complex and has undergone frequent changes. Throughout German history since the Reformation, each political entity has tended to have its own separate Lutheran church. Although a majority of Germans until recent times were at least nominally Lutheran, there has never been a central Lutheran church in Germany. At the present time, the Lutheran churches are organized geographically into several separate denominations (e.g., the Lutheran Church of Hanover, the Lutheran Church of Bavaria, the North Elbian Lutheran Church). These churches are led by bishops and are part of a confederation of German Protestant churches that also include Reformed and United (Lutheran and Reformed) churches, the Evangelical Church of Germany, which is led by a president. In the United States, Lutherans are organized into several denominations. The largest, the Evangelical Church in America (ELCA), has regional bishops who have been brought into the apostolic succession through the ELCA's formal relationship with the Episcopal Church. The ELCA has a presiding bishop, presently (2012) Mark Hanson. The second largest American Lutheran church, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, is organized into regional synods that have presidents. The denomination itself has a president. The large majority of Lutheran churches, presently 143, are members of the Lutheran World Federation, which calls itself a "communion" of churches. The LWF has no authority over its member churches, but it has an important role in coordinating various Lutheran activities, including mission work and enormous global relief efforts. The LWF has its headquarters in Geneva. Its chief officer is a president, presently (2012) Munib Younan, who is bishop of Palestine and Jordan in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. The Lutheran World Federation includes denominations that represent approximately 70 million of the 75 million persons who are formally members of Lutheran churches. The number of practicing Lutherans probably is less than 75 million, while the number of persons who are at least nominally Lutheran could range as high as 120 million. ( Full Answer )

The church is the Christians religious house. So, how one Christian expects there is an Antichrist church? Another Answer: Today there are thousands of varying Churches each claiming to be following Jesus Christ. Yet these teach differing Gospels and disagree on countless points of doctrine.… Do you think Jesus came to be the Head of all these different sects? Is Christ divided?? Or did He establish ONE true Church where He is the Head and promised the Gates of Hades would not stop it??? Yes, there are 'antichrist' churches. The word means 'against or instead of the anointed One.' These are false teachers who teach falsely the way of the world that is now controlled by the god of the world - Satan. Ask yourself some basic questions like; Do you believe Christ to be Divine and the Son or God who came in the flesh or do you believe Christ is a 'first creation' or some sort of archangel who decided to come to earth as a man? This idea began as Arianism in the young Church and exists today in some sects. Or do you believe to keep the Sabbath and Annual Feast Days of God or do you think Sunday and Christmas, Easter, etc are the correct way to worship God? Infant baptism or adult emersion? Individual and private confession or confession via a intermediary? Any meats can be eaten or there are dietary restrictions? Do we go to heaven/hell when we die or do we sleep until we are called to our Judgement process? Is Christ our perfect example we should strive to emanated or is life relative and what we think is good/bad is what really matters?? We each must make our individual choices on this 'train' of life. The saddest part about being deceived into believing something is that most everyone doesn't know they are being deceived. Remember, 'The fear (awe) of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and instructions.' (Proverbs 1:7) ( Full Answer )
