How many people believe God is real?

It seems that approximately 20% of people worldwide are atheists (depending on exact definitions, and sources, the numbers may vary); the remaining people usually believe in some sort of God, or gods.

If you mean the Christian big "G" God as opposed to any god, you'd see (by most accounts) that about 1/3 of the world's population about 2 billion) may believe in him. This is approximate as many Christians have a "social Christianity" that does not reflect personal belief. If you expand this net to capture all the believers in the Abrahamic god, the value profanely reaches 2/3 of the total population as it captures Moslems and minority religions like Judaism.This still leaves out Hindus who have a belief system with many deities, none of which most of the first group would admit are "real" gods, the populations of countries like China (which officially has no religion) many European countries which are secular, and Buddhists who are a non-theistic religion.

Mixed in with all of the god believers there are atheists and other non-theists who may account for up to 20% of the world's population.

People who are at least nominally Christians, Muslims or Jews are said to make up around two thirds of the world's population, although this figure may be inflated by assumptions such as that all Europeans are Christians. Among those people who identify with a religion, it is often more for social or cultural reasons, family tradition or personal security.

More than 50 per cent of Europeans identify with Christianity, but polls indicate that as few as 10 per cent of those who identify as Christians believe the Christian God is real, meaning that something closer to five per cent of Europeans believe God is real. About 80 per cent of Americans identify as Christians, and it seems that most of these believe that God is real. A much higher proportion of African people who identify as Christian also believe their God is real.

It is likely that most people who identify as Muslims believe their God is real, but it is much harder to establish the real extent of belief, especially in Muslim-majority countries.

Any worldwide Demographics on percentages would not be reliable enough to answer this. For many religions, God is a concept and not a person or being. Therefore, a person would have to qualify what would be considered "real" as the definition would not be the same for each individual or faith. About 60-70% of the world identify themselves as one of the monotheistic faiths. There are still many indigenous and tribal religions practiced in many parts of the world that have a wide array of ideas on a divine being. Most of India identifies as Hindu and most Hindu's believe in a supreme being or beings. Where as many in China and southern Asia identify with either Buddhism, Taoism or the teachings of Confucius. All three of those religions are considered atheist by some, but there is a concept of divinity intertwined with much of the teachings so that is highly debatable as to whether they are true atheists.

The percentage of what would universally be considered true atheists is rather small so the only answer that can be confidently given is the large majority of people believe that God is real in some form.
