I just posted this question in "Yamaha Motorcycle Forum" for my '82 Maxim and was told 3.7 quarts (not sure if this is with the filter or not). I heard the capacity is stamped below the filler cap. ..... The oil amount is stamped below the oil cap... in milliliters. On my 750 maxim, this is 2500milliliters, or 2.5 liters. Motorcycle oil generally come in liter bottles (which is close to a quart anyway) so it takes around two and a half liter bottles to fill. This is including the oil filter. You can always check the oil level by putting the bike on it's showstand (not the kickstand) and looking through the oil glass located next to the brake pedal.
1982 and 1983
I measured my 83 midnight maxim 750 and it stands 31 in. from ground to top of seat
a small round window rigt next to the back brake lever
Most of that older stuff was around 32 thou.

yes! I still own a 1982 model year, and it still performs well. This is a bike that was well ahead of the game in its design at the time.
Disconnect the battery then remove or loosen the top center bolt going towards the fuel tank. I remove the relay from its harness ad best as possible, remove the battery strap (rubber). Then carefully and almost forcefully "finagel" it out of it box. Hope that helps.
Should be 5 with filter change
So what, exactly, is the question? I have changed the oil in this bike, so what is it you want to know?
