Any leakage indicates a problem. How much is too much? When you see a puddle on the ground, or your exhaust is white. Those are pressing issues.

If it ever gets low enough to get the temp gauge to move, you waited way too long.

If keeping the system 90% full requires adding coolant every day, you got a pretty annoying problem. I've run cars in this mode...

Every week, you got maintenance. My Honda's.

Every month, count your blessings. My old vw's.

Never.. your car is perfect. My metro surprisingly enough.

It's all relative to how often you want to open the hood. I don't mind once a week.

Whatever you do, don't add any of that radiator stop leak stuff. It works wonderfully, but has the nasty tendancy to coat the inside of your engine and plug small passages. This reduces the cooling efficiency and could compound your problem.

The gritty liquid stuff will ruin your engine over time but the dry metal shavings work quite well.

If there really is no leak then it is likely a head gasket allowing coolant to leak into the cylinder and go out the exhaust as steam.
