Why do you think the Japanese chose to attack Pearl Harbor instead of the mainland US?

Well for one Pearl Harbor was much closer than the mainland United States, not to mention most of the United States Pacific Fleet was anchored at Pearl Harbor. There thinking was probably that if they destroyed the United States Pacific Fleet then they could go virtually unopposed throughout the entire Pacific. Also they goal was to destroy the American aircraft carriers. If they had sent their battle fleet farther East to get closer to the US mainland, there would be a higher risk that they American carriers would locate them and destroy them before they could return to the safety of their homeland. The further their fleet had to travel, the more fuel, logistics and support ships wold be required---also increasing their risk of detection.

Why did japan destroy the us fleet in the pacific?

No. I'm guessing you mean at Pearl Harbor. The Japanese did considerable damage to the battleships of the Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor. At that time major fleet units, capital ships, were battleships and aircraft carriers. The US had fifteen battleships (with ten more building or planned) and seven aircraft carriers, about evenly divided between the Atlantic and Pacific. There were no aircraft carriers in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked. This was extremely lucky for the US. It also forced the US Navy to be innovative. Battleship admirals dominated the Navy, and carrier admirals were mavericks, often considered wild-eyed visionaries. But the carrier turned out to be the dominant type of ship for the Pacific War, and the damage to the US battleships at Pearl Harbor forced the US to depend on them. All eight US battleships assigned to the Pacific Fleet were in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked. All eight were damaged, some only superficially, some heavily. But only two were permanently lost, the USS Arizona and the USS Oklahoma. All the other six were eventually repaired and saw service later during the war. There were about ninety-three US warships in the Harbor at the time if the attack, and about sixteen were sunk or damaged. The Japanese could have made the attack much worse if they had concentrated some of their attack on the drydock in Pearl Harbor, and the submarine base, and especially the fuel farm. If they had destroyed or heavily damaged the fuel farm the Pacific Fleet would have been forced to withdraw to its bases on the west coast of the US, where it had been based until 1940. If they had destroyed the drydock, or even rendered its doors inoperable, it would have made repairing battle damaged ships possible only on the west coast. US submarine sailors made up only 1% of the US Navy's personnel, but they sank 55% of Japanese ships (merchant and naval) sunk during the war. The Japanese did no damage at all to the sub base within Pearl Harbor. And, of course, had they been fortunate to find any of the US carriers in Pearl Harbor when they attacked the course of the war would have been altered heavily in their favor.

How much land was destroyed at Pearl Harbor?

Land was not destroyed at Pearl Harbor. The bombs destroyed buildings and shore facilities. They sank many ships and destroyed aircraft on the ground. They were unable to destroy the facilities used to repair the ships, which proved a major factor moving forward in the war.

To what extent were the aims of the Japanese achieved from the attack on Pearl Harbor?

They wanted to sink the 7th fleet in the harbor with a major attempt being the aircraft carriers. None of the carriers were in Pearl Harbor on the 7th. They did sink most of the battleships, all but one was returned to the service, but that took much time.

How do you write an outline on the cause of the Pearl Harbor attack?

The purpose of the Pearl Harbor attack was to eliminate the US Navy from interferring with Japanese Plans of Conquest. With the US Naval Fleet eliminated at Pearl Harbor, the Imperial Navy could run rampant across the Pacific without resistance from the United States. By the time the US Atlantic Fleet was transferred to the Pacific Ocean to engage Japanese Naval Units, the Imperial Navy would have naval re-supply bases established in the Pacific, and fully re-armed, re-supplied, and fully rested & maintained warships waiting for the Atlantic Fleet. In much the same way as the Japanese Battleship Fleet was prepared for the Russian Battleship Fleet (Baltic Fleet) when they arrived after an 18,000 mile voyage, to the Battle of Tsushima, which was decisively fought on 27 May 1905.
