Not too bad.You have to take the dash parts off (plastic trim) you just pull it off and others have screws, its pretty simple just start pullin ( look for screws first) once that's done there are screws that hold the cluster cover in take them out and it should come right off, I cant remember if I took the whole cluster out but if you have too its not that bad, there are plugs behind the cluster just stick your hand behind it and you will feel how it they out.
It has been awhile for me but I don't think you can remove it. The speedometer is a press fit and has to be pushed out from behind.
You don't say what kind of car but most require the gauges to be removed to take it off.
do you mean your car won't display your car speed ? is that what you mean ? check the speedometer cable on your car. check the speed sensor located at the end of the speedometer cable. check the plastic gear inserted on the transmission at the end the speedometer cable. get a qualified technician who can work on your car.. it may require the instrument panel (gauges assy) be remove to unplug the other end of the cable..if cable type is used. some vehicles use wire and sensor.. if so, no need to remove gauges, just check sensor and the gears inserted to transmission.
First remove the two screws in the plastic cover surrounding the gauges. This piece snaps out, be gentle!! Then remove the 2 screws at the base of the gauges, also there is 1 screw at the top of the gauges. Then pull the gauges out, disconnect the three wiring harnesses. Thats it. simmpler then it sounds. Good luck
you must remove the molding around the instrument cluster then the clear plastic cover over the gauges, then you must remove the instrument cluster by taking out screws and disconnecting all three wire harneses, and then disconnect the speedometer cable from the back of the speedometer (make sure speedometer is fully disconnected or else the cable could snap.) Once cluster is free on the backside each light is labeled, turn the plugs counter-clockwise to unlock.
Remove the dashboard cover. Remove the retaining ring, from the speedometer. Remove the speedometer cable from the back of the speedometer. Reverse the process to install the new speedometer.
1980 corvette , how to remove speedometer
Remove the dash panel cover. Remove the speedometer retaining ring. Remove the cable from the back of the speedometer. Reverse the process to install the new speedometer.
take out the plexi dust shield so you dont break it then remove the dash, the bolts are easy to find, up by the windshield and on the sides ( doesnt take very long) also helps to remove the steering column cover. (sometimes the steering wheel needs pulled if its too big for the dash to clear) you will also have to remove the knobs from your heater and any other small items in your way. presto! the gauges can be accessed. usually easiest to replace the whole hed unit if the actual speedometer is damaged, some times its a faulty speedo cable though
Pull the speedo and gauge package out of dash. Unhook wiring. Remove speedo cable from speedometer. Pull speedo cable out of housing, lube it lightly and re-insert. Hook everything back up and re-install gauges. Pull the speedo and gauge package out of dash. Unhook wiring. Remove speedo cable from speedometer. The gauge cluster is mounted from behind the dash with three bolts. You have to reach in behind there and remove the three nuts with a small wrench. Once you remove the nuts, the gauge cluster itself will push back through the dash. From there, you can remove the speedo itself from the cluster. The speedometer only has 3 small screws keeping it mounted to the gauge cluster.
Brute force. Just pull it off.
