• (BEST ANSWER) This tells you that the air bag system may not deploy in a collision. I suggest getting car to a dealer for inspection. This could be covered under warranty depending on age and mileage of the car.
• If you need to order safety airbags do not order them brand new because they are way to expensive.

• In my auto, the air bag light comes on because the ignition switch is worn and not making good contact. Call the service manager at your local dealer. You could have a serious problem.

• It may also be a faulty SRS computer which could cause the airbag to deploy without cause. This would be true if your vehicle is a Honda civic and was a recalled item due to the matter.

I took it to the Ford dealer and they said it was a problem with the driver's seatbelt pre-tensioner, and that it meant the airbag system was turned off and would not deploy in the case of any acccident. They had to remove the driver's seat to repair the probem, but now it works fine. As the vehicle was out of warranty, it cost $275 to repair, but hey, what's the price of safety?

• Just last night this issue occurred with my 1995 Nissan 200sx. I thought that my battery was about to die and bought a new one. I installed the new battery and as an indication that something was still obvioiusly wrong my lights continued to dim and the airbag liht came on. Low and behold, my alternator needed to be replaced and was affecting my electrical system. So we are placing a new alternator in the car today to correct this issue
