African-American freedoms have been limited in many ways since they were kidnapped by the hundreds of thousands from Africa and brought over to America as slaves in the 1600's. They were emancipated in 1863, but they were still far from equal. Segregation was an instituted policy until the 1950's, and millions of them still live in abject poverty in ghettos. Their freedoms are still being limited.
