There is no convenient way to get there by subway, because you need to go pretty much straight across town, and there are very few subway lines that run crosstown.

I would just walk or take a cab. It's only a little over 1.5 miles (2.4 km): 10 or 11 blocks south to 23rd Street, then 8 or 9 avenue blocks east to 1st Avenue. Penn Station is at 33rd to 34th Street, between 8th and 7th Avenues. Actually, technically it's 9 or 10 blocks east, counting Broadway, but Broadway runs diagonally north/south and cuts between avenues, so the blocks it runs between are not full length.

If you really want to take the subway, then you can take the Uptown E train (of the A-C-E, the blue line) from 34th Street-Penn Station to Lexington Avenue-53rd Street. This station is connected to the 51st Street Station on the 6train (of the 4-5-6, the dark green line). Take the Downtown 6 to 23rd Street (at Park Avenue South, 4 blocks east of 1st Avenue).

There's another route you can take. You'd have to make 2 transfers, but there'd be fewer stops, and you wouldn't be taken as far out of your way. You can take the Uptown 1-2-3 (the red line), 1 stop, from 34th Street-Penn Station to 42nd Street-Times Square.

Transfer at Times Square to the S shuttle train (color grey) east across 42nd Street, from Times Square (West 42nd) to Grand Central Station (East 42nd). At 42nd Street-Grand Central Station, transfer to the Downtown 6 to 23rd Street.

What subway goes to JFK airport?

You need to take the A train (of the A-C-E, the blue line). If you're coming from the 42nd Street-Times Square Station (at 42nd Street and 7th Avenue), then you just walk through the tunnel that connects the 42nd Street-Times Square Station to the 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal Station on the A-C-E line.If you're coming from 42nd Street-Grand Central Station (at 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue), then first you need to take the S shuttle train (color grey), west across 42nd Street, from Grand Central (East 42nd) to Times Square (West 42nd). Then walk through the tunnel to the 42nd Street-Port Authority Station on the A-C-E line. Then get on the Downtown A train to the Howard Beach Station. At the Howard Beach Station, get the shuttle (called the AirTrain) which takes you inside the JFK terminals.

What subway do you have to take to get from 1st Avenue in Manhattan to Carroll Street in Brooklyn?

First Avenue is a very long avenue. It runs up and down almost the entire East Side of Manhattan. So you will probably need to take a look at a New York City subway map (see the Related Link below) to find out which subway stop is closest to you.The easiest way to get from the East Side of Manhattan to Carroll Street is to take the 4-5-6 (the dark green line), which runs up and down Lexington Avenue (above 42nd Street) and Park Avenue (below 42nd Street), and then transfer to the Ftrain (of the B-D-F-M, the orange line). The F train stops at Carroll Street. There are three main ways to transfer from the 4-5-6 to the F train in Manhattan:1) Take the 4-5-6 to 59th Street-Lexington Avenue, and then walk through the tunnel that connects the 59th Street-Lexington Avenue Station to the 63rd Street-Lexington Avenue Station on the F train. Free transfer is available only if you pay by Metrocard; otherwise, you will have to pay two separate fares. Take the Downtown F to Carroll Street.2) Take the 4-5-6 to 14th Street-Union Square, and transfer there to the Manhattan-bound L train (the grey line), one stop, from 14th Street-Union Square to 14th Street-6th Avenue. Transfer at 14th Street-6th Avenue to the Downtown Fto Carroll Street.3) Take the Downtown 6 train to Bleeker Street. On the Downtown 6 only (NOT the Uptown 6) you can transfer from the Bleeker Street Station to the Broadway-Lafayette Station. Get the Downtown F at the Broadway-Lafayette Station.

Take the Downtown E train (of the A-C-E, the blue line) from 5th Avenue-53rd Street to 50th Street.Transfer at 50th Street to the Uptown C train, and take the Uptown C to 110th Street-Cathedral Parkway. You will exit the subway at the northwest corner of Central Park, at the corner of Central Park West and Central Park North (aka 8th Avenue and 110th Street).Walk three avenue blocks west to Amsterdam Avenue: 8th Avenue/CPW ---> Manhattan Avenue ---> Columbus Avenue/Morningside Drive (Columbus becomes Morningside Drive at 110th Street) ---> Amsterdam Avenue, and then three blocks north to 113th Street. You will probably want to walk west first, since if you walk north to 113th first, you'll have to cut across Morningside Park, which will be somewhat of a detour.
