IF 1997 Geo Tracker replaced clutch bell crank and now won't go into 5th gear mechanic says transmission needs tearing down could it be a throw out bearing?

If it was the throwout bearing, it would affect all of the gears, not just one. I would suspect a bad gear or syncronizer.
