Could be a neutral switch or starter selenoid problem. I have enve seen a bad battery do that, too. See if you can get your battery "load tested." This can usually be done for free at your local auto parts store. A neutral switch can be bypassed/hardwired and a selenoid can be jumped if you can't replace either. Your local auto parts store person should have the knowledge to help point these out.
Seized engine? Weak battery? Loose or corroded battery cables? Bad starter? Bad starter solenoid? Bad neutral or clutch safety switch?
Loose or corroded battery cables? Weak battery? Bad neutral or clutch safety switch? Bad starter? Bad starter solenoid?
The wire that goes from your battery to your starter, or just your starter, very common problem
Seized engine? Weak battery? Corroded or loose battery cables? Bad starter or starter solenoid? Bad neutral or clutch safety switch? Bad ignition switch?
Could be: Seized engine Weak battery loose or corroded battery cables Bad starter solenoid Bad starter Bad neutral or clutch safety switch
Loose battery cable? Bad starter? ( checkwires on starter) Bad starter solenoid? Bad Neutral or clutch safety switch?
If the 2000 Cavalier has no lights an will not start, there is an electrical issue. Check the battery, alternator, and the wiring from the battery all the way to the starter to find the problem.
If it will not turn over you have an electrical problem. Start by removing the battery cables and cleaning the cables and battery posts. If that does not solve the problem, then put a charger on the battery and let it fully charge. Turn on your headlights and try to start the car. If it still will not turn over and the lights do not dim you probably have a bad starter or starter solenoid. But make sure your battery is good. If you can jump start it with another vehicle the battery is bad. It can also be a defective ignition switch.
Could be battery, battery connections, starter, starter connections, neutral safety switch. I would check those in that order.
check the wiring connections at the battery and the starter. Both places can give starting problems. The dash lights could be a separate problem. Check the fuses for the lights.
Seized engine? Loose or corroded battery cables? Weak or dead battery? Bad starter solenoid? Bad starter (dead spot)? Bad clutch or neutral safety switch? Bad ignition switch?
Battery cable connections may not be tight. The starter could be bad. The starter solenoid could be bad. Check to see if the lights work. If they do, leave them on and try to start the vehicle. IF the lights dim, you have a bad battery connection somewhere or a bad starter.
