Don't know what car this is but had a similar problem with an S40 Volvo 1.8i. Garage said engine was shot (needed replacement), turned out to be a blocked flame trap in the crankcase breather system. Cost nought but time to sort. Had to remove inlet manifold. It's run perfect ever since and cruised thru the MOT emmisions test.
Bad echaust manifold or header gasket. Or loose header or manifold gasket.. if its just a loose bolt the gasket will eventually crack or break from pressure.the popping sound is high pressure leaking past the gasket Bad echaust manifold or header gasket. Yes, it can. Other causes include ignition and fuel systems.
I have a 1990 3.1 and what it turned out to be was the head gasket was leaking now it runs fine
Engine will possibly overheat, coolant will mix with the oil, and eventually destroy the engine. You must replace a cracked head gasket.
It is not wise to drive with a blown head gasket. If you continue driving with a blown gasket, eventually your car will over heat and the engine will seize up. This can cause accidents if it occurs while driving.
If the engine is run while the gasket is blown, the engine will overheat and eventually blow or seize up. If the gasket blew and engine was soon after turned off, there may be no further damage to the engine. Replacement of the gasket can get this engine in working condition.
Not necessarily. It can be some other things, such as an ignition part that is overheating.
Age Extreme heat Oil saturation from leaking valve cover gasket
Along with the head gasket you often get warping of the head. Coolant will get mixed with the oil causing engine bearing and ring damage if the car was driven after the head gasket blew. If you continue to drive the car you will eventually ruin the engine.
Possible problems: 1. Clogged Fuel Filter 2. Water in Fuel A. Bad Fuel Supply B. Blown Head Gasket
I would thinh you have a leaking plenum gasket thus allowing extra oxygen into the fuel air mixture leanig it out and making rpm's go up.
The exhaust manifold.
