Britain left Africa in poverty for stripping most of the raw materials from the land. I think its unfair, Africa's resources were barely touched. If British rule was so bad why did the countries concern join the Commonwealth? If anything the British authorities were guilty of not properly filling the power vacuum left by their withdrawal which led to the poverty and corruption of which you speak. Remember the end of any empire is messy look at Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire. It was plunged into what is known as the Dark Ages a time of (you guessed it?) poverty and ignorance.
