Acoroding to Dr. kissenger during the cold war the USSR played Chess looking as a grand master would at least eight moves ahead at all moves. The US in comparison only reacted to the moves made with little long term (20-40-50) years into the future planing. They played chess we just moved the pieces. Did we win the cold war? Good question, did communism fall see ansers at the wikI. This was said by Henery possibly in an enterview I read in some foreign policy magazine.
The US, as a capitalist democracy, saw the world as a community of international trading partners, all with their own sovereignty. It gained power through commercial and industrial cooperation with developing countries.
The Soviet Union, a Communist Party oligarchy, sought to extend its military and political control through socialist revolutions and satellite dictatorships. By making other nations into helpless subservients, the USSR could maintain its economy despite the utter failure of collectivism.
There were significant economic differences between the US and the USSR during the Cold War. A major and embarrassing economic difference was that because of the Soviet collective farm system, there were shortages in key crops such as corn. The USSR was forced to buy corn from its Cold War enemy the US. Additionally, consumer products in the US and the Western world were abundant, while in the USSR and her communist allies, there were shortages in such goods. These are two major examples of how state-run large industries, such as in the USSR cannot compete with free market economies that the US and her allies have.
Soviet Union were a communist and Dictatorship. The US were Capitialism and democracy I LIKE Pizza

Soviet Union (Russia.)
The United States opposed the Soviet Union's communist system.
In the post-World War II era, different value-systems, world-views, and socio-political ideals were the the main causes of the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States. As a communist country, the Soviet Union's basic commitments were quite different from the democratic-republican commitments of America. At the same time, the Soviet Union's tremendous suffering during both world wars affected its aggressive foreign (and domestic) policy during the Cold War, as well.

Several men presided over the Soviet Union during the Cold War; the last leader of the Soviet Union was Boris Yel'tsin.
