The engine block and heads are the same. The intake and exhaust manifolds are different. The transmissions do not interchange due to different control systems.

Certainly. If the 89 originally had the same engine/transmission combo it should be a simple (relatively speaking) job.
I had the same problem and it is your oxygen sensor.
All negative battery cables are mounted to the engine block. Look for a bolt low on the engine block on the same side as the battery.
