The 3400 is a new version of the 3100; therefore, everything needs to be identical. Both Monte Carlos were interchangeable.

I BELIEVE it is 4 quarts. Put in 4 quarts, and then check your dipstick. I know 3100's and 3400's are 4.5quarts but the newer engine is different.
I don't remember which six GM put in the 03 Impala.... If you have a 3800, it's behind the harmonic damper. If you have a 3100 or 3400 well... I would assume it's on the RH side of the block above the oilpan (facing the rear of the car) like on a 2.8L, but they never go bad on the 3100 or 3400 so I'm not entirely sure.

yes you can use the 3400 in your car if it has the 3100 in it, just take the intake off of the 3100 and use it on the 3400 and install back into the car. works fine, i just done it to my 1999 grand prix, it gave it more power and the CPU will adjust the settings for you.
