The 1997-2001 Honda CRV with the 2.0L 4 cylinder uses a timing belt. 2002-up use a chain. The water pump is also driven by the cam belt. To save yourself money later on, replace the water pump at the same time as you replace the belt. The belt MUST be replaced at 105,000 miles or 10 years. Failure to replace the belt may result in severe engine damage as this is an interference engine.
