Assuming that the vase you're using has a wide base and a narrow spout, the simplest thing you can do is fill the vase until the water line is below the narrow opening to the spout, at least 3 inches below the rim. This will ensure that if he does jump, he'll slide safely back into his home.
If you have a bowl or cylindrical tank- fill the bowl so that the water line is a good 2-3 inches below the opening.
If you can put a lid on the tank, make sure the lid has small openings to allow an air flow under the lid.
If you have a female Betta, I would NOT advise to keeping her in any tank or container with an opening unless you want crispy Betta fish on your carpet.
Yes, Betta fish can jump. You can teach them to jump by placing a small amount of food on your finger and when your betta fish is ready, it will jump and take the food off your finger! :)
I think so
no because it will want to jump in the toilet.
Yes, but if he is nesting, it needs to be turned very low so as to avoid damaging his bubble nest.
Yes. But they don't really fly. They jump out of the water and it looks like they have wings.
My certainly does all the time but mostly at night before i feed him. Betta fish are quite adept jumpers. In the wild, during drought season, their survival often depends on them "jumping" from puddle to puddle to find one that's large and clean with food. It's always best to keep a lid on a betta tank. Even a piece of breatheable cloth secured with a rubber band works just fine.
Bettas jump all the time and they will do it even when well looked after and comfortable in their tanks. Some can even be trained to jump for pellets on cue, they are so good at it. You should always cover their tanks. Sitting a piece of paper over the tank is often enough to discourage jumping.
Just keep the water clean and feed the fish. A betta fish is also known as a fighting fish, so whenever you put them together they will fight. That's not true I have 2 female betta fish and they do not fight they usually just chase each other for about a minute then go back swimming they should be fine watch them carfully for a while and if it does countinue then yes you should separate them but again i have 2 females and they do not fight.I agree with the above statement. I have three female betta's in a community tank. They have a definite hierarchy going on but other than that they are normally very good. You need to watch them closely though. One of the three apperently pissed the boss off and got pretty beat up the other day. But this was after near a month of more or less perfect harmony. Male betta's should never be left in a tank together, unless you have some way of keeping them from seeing each other. Remember all betta's can jump a few inches out of the water. A simple see through barrier that comes up to the top of the water will not keep them separated. They can and will jump it. Epsolon77.
Yes - fish jump all the time.
To list all the fish that jump would need an encyclopedia. Most fish jump. There are very few fish species that don't or won't jump when they are being chased and are under threat.
Total rubbish. Bettas are intelligent fish. Mine remember which end of their tanks they are fed at. They will also jump to take food off my hand.
Lots of things can happen! She can jump out of her bowl, fall while being placed back in her bowl, get one of the many diseases that bettas get (Pop eye, cloud eye, Tail rot etc.), she can be p;aced in a bowl with another betta and fight... What are the symptoms that you are seeing in your betta? When you find out, start a new question, explaining better. Natalie01
