you should call MINI USA with this question...I do not have the number on hand...but call a dealer and they can give you the 1800 number. Best of luck!
The best hand position for straight ahead steering is to think of the steering wheel as a clock. The best position would be to have the hands on the 3 and the 9, which is what people are taught when learning how to drive.

You can adjust the steering box some. Or possible ball joint problems. If the problem is lurches and surges in the steering (can feel like loose idler arm, loose ball joints, etc.), one common cause is a faulty steering position sensor. This $60 sensor at the base of the steering column (inside the vehicle) tells the variable assist power steering how fast you are turning the steering wheel.
The camshaft position sensor is right under the power steering pump. Remove the power steering pump to access the sensor.
replace the steering column.

It combines control of steering and acceleration
It is not possible to alter a car from a manual steering into a power steering car. The engines for the two types of cars are very different.
Variable ratio (VR) steering means that the ratio between the steering wheel and the wheels (tires) is not constant. Depending on the position of the steering wheel the car wheels may be more or less sensitive to steering wheel rotation. Practically, when you drive straight (steering wheels in neutral position) the steering ratio is about 2 times higher compare to steering ration when you are parking (steering wheels is away from neutral position). Variable ratio rack and pinion is used in VR steering. It was originally invented in Australia and later improved in the USA. Variable ratio rack and pinion software is used for calculation of the complex tooth surface of the vr rack.
