Like most of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, etc. Handguns, fully automatic weapons, and semi-automatic firearms are normally not allowed. Long guns such as rifles and shotguns may have to be registered with the authorities. But in Japan (where the legal gun laws are the most strict), you require the police to come to your house and check your firearm (rifle, shotgun, gun safe and ammunition every 3 months and take a license renewal class once a year.Fixdeluxe1's Improvement:
As of October 2009 the current Japanese firearms laws are: Hunters & Sports shooters may own and use a shotgun or rifle(No Pistols,No Assault rifles although I am not sure as to what defines one in japan). All firearms must have a license and you have to sit a test every year with police visiting and inspecting firearms, ammunition & storage. All firearms must be registered and I don't know if you can sell them or not as there is probably no gun stores/shows what so ever.Gun violence and crime is very low in japan apart from aspects of the yakuza(japanese mafia).I think firearms must be grandfathered now.

Did Hitler surround himself with children when he announced sought gun control?

No, because Hitler didn't announce gun control. His 1938 gun laws actually de-regulated many of the guns control laws put in place under the Weimar Republic. I can find no historical record of Hitler making a public announcement about these laws, let alone surrounded by children.

How do you know if your gun rights have been removed?

If you're a felon in the U.S. you have lost your gun rights, however, if you think you have lost your gun rights for some reason, you should consult a local attorney familiar with gun laws.

Does the 2nd Amendment primarily protect an individual's right to bear arms and prohibit the government from making and enforcing gun control laws?

The Second Amendment has been selectively re-interpreted over the last 100 years or so, but not even the most fervent NRA member believes that it prohibits ANY gun control laws. Most people believe that gun control laws banning convicted criminals from owning firearms are completely reasonable. Gun opponents argue that all guns are dangerous and should be banned, while gun supporters believe that law-abiding citizens have a right to own guns. The plain text of the Second Amendment is pretty clear. The recent "Heller" Supreme Court decision, and the current case of the Chicago gun bans have changed the outlook for gun control laws, and we won't know what the end result will be for some years.

What does the qoute guns dont kill people people kill people mean?

It means that a gun is a tool, it is an inanimate object, and as such it cannot kills somebody. It cannot do anything but sit there until someone uses it. The point is that the gun itself is not dangerous; rather, it is people who can be dangerous. Ther point of this is that gun laws do nothing to stop crime, because criminals don't follow laws. if they are going to use a gun to shoot someone or commit a robbery, what do they care about breaking some gun ban or law? These laws only affect the law abiding gun owners, the ones who follow laws, and they aren't the problem. Therefore, "guns don't kill people, people do," is an accurate statement. Just like with cars - cars don't kill people, reckless/drunk drivers do.
