The Kia uses a longer key for the ignition. The ignition key will work the doors and start the car. The door key only will only open the doors. I had a key made at a locksmith and he first made the wrong one. He then looked at the original key and said it was longer. he cut the longer key and it worked in the ignition and doors perfectly. The two different key blanks are X240 and X267. Those are the ILCO numbers of the possible blanks. When getting a key made for this model and year be sure to tell the locksmith if you have a manual or an automatic transmission. The longer X267 is the correct blank for a Sportage with auto transmission. The shorter X240 as well as the X253 are the correct blanks for the Sportage with manual transmission.

yes Any locksmith can make an ignition key it's cost me $150 for both ignition and door key in the past. I wouldn't think the dealer could do it cheaper but they might.
The cost of doing this would be more time consuming and more expensive than going to a locksmith or a dealer and getting a key with a chip.
