Yes, it is a serious (I think Federal) crime not to report it. If it is found out later that you lied, then you can get sued. I know that people lie all the time about accidents but you can get in serious trouble in regards to an airbag.
My husband worked at a car dealership and I also asked about an airbag deployment when I couldn't receive a carfax report. I was told about how you have to disclose airbag deployment when trading-in/selling a car due to safety reasons.
No, as long as the air bags have been replaced the dealer is under no obligation to inform the buyer they were replaced. However if they were not replaced then it is illegal for the dealer to sell the vehicle. A carafe report will tell you if the SRS was deployed.
The SRS light refers to the airbags, have you bought this car used or new? If the car has been wrecked and the airbags have been deployed and it has been fixed back without the air bags or the sensors to the airbags has not been replaced or the computer has not been reset to clear the SRS light out after it has been repaired. That's my experience with these lights staying on. If it has been repaired correctly with the airbag system then all you need to do is go to a dealer or someone with a computer and let them hook it up and reset the SRS light and you should be good to go that's if the new air bag system and sensors have been installed correctly.
Once an air bag has been deployed, there is no fixing it. Replacement is necessary and the cost would depend on the year, make and model vehicle.
my airbags have been deployed and my seat belts are locked. What should I do
no.Only time air bags need changing is after the airbags have been deployed in the event of a wreck, or if the dash light comes on indicating there is a problem with the airbags. airbag replacement or repair is a specialist job and most steering colomn specialists will do the job proerly for you.
There is no vehicle sold from a dealer in the United States that does not have airbags due to the fact that manufacturers are required to install them. Therefore, the only way to find a car in the United States that does not have an airbag is to either uninstall the airbags personally or buy a used car in which they have already been removed.
If the vehicle was sold to you with a disabled air bag restraint system it was sold in violation of the law. Contact the dealer and ask that it be repaired for free or an allowance be made in the price you paid. If they balk at this, turn them into the your local and/or state consumer protection office.
Usually if the airbags have been deployed in an accident, the car is "totaled". The expense is just too great to replace the airbags and their related sensors and all the wiring inside the steering column and dashboard. On the flip side, IF the car can be repaired satisfactorily, the amount of time needed to get the parts depends upon the manufacturer itself, and IF they actually make replacement parts or IF they are in stock.
Don't just reset the srs light! It could still be caused by a faulty sensor. I'd take it to the dealership to get it checked out. Airbags can save your life.
It is illegal to sell a car with the SRS not working, for whatever reason, if they knew it was not working and is a violation of federal law. The selling dealer may not have known the module was missing. You need to take the car back to the dealer and ask for a full refund on the price of the car but you have to be able to prove the module was missing, so have that documented and signed by the body shop. If they refuse inform them you will seek legal action to get your money back. Then contact your state Attorney General for advice on how to proceed. You must give the dealer the opportunity to correct the situation as he may have also been duped just as you were.
lots and lots of lives have been saved by airbags. its indeed very cool.
Hyundai and all vehicle car manufacturers that use the SRS Airbag system DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT AIR BAGS ARE TURNED OFF. No Hyundai Dealer will disconnect a AIRBAG without risking loosing their Dealership. Many customers want to put their baby seats in the front of the car and many times I have been asked to turn off the front airbags which is denied in all cases. Also children under 4ft tall must NEVER travel in the front of any car, nevermind with or without AIRBAGS. I hope this answers your question.
