Typically, it is a light bulb. Turn that indicator on and check to see if either the front or back light is not working. Some newer cars have turn lights on the front side as well. Compare to the working side to find all the lights that are used.
Good luck
This is the turn signal bulb in the front bumper - passenger's side.

That usually indicates that one or more of the bulbs have burned out. Turn on the left signal, get out of the vehicle and see which bulb is NOT turning on. Replace that bulb and the signal should work again. Also the flasher may not be working for one side.
This varies with model year.
The turn signal flasher is located in the fuse panel. It is under the dash on the drivers side.
You should follow the Youtube instructions.
Hey Phill=the front ones can be gotten to from the rear of the light assy and on some of the cars you can get to the rear ones in the trunk. GoodluckJoe
If the gas cap was in fact loose or faulty, just tighten it or replace it and the light will clear itself after a couple drive cycles.
Inside the trunk against the lower outer panel--there should be 3-4 10mm nuts or large wing nuts--remove these and the assembly will pull out from the outside-bulbs will then be accessible and able to be twisted out of housing
