Had the same problem with my 2000 grand prix. After much research it was a faulty crankshaft position sensor.
Disconnect the negative cable first and connect the same negative terminal last when installing the new battery.
disconnect negative battery terminal depress brake petal fully for 30-45 seconds reconnect negative battery terminal
disconnect the negative battery terminal and leave it disconnected for 15 minutes, then reconnect.
This is fairly easy... however: DISCONNECT NEGATIVE TERMINAL FIRST!! # Make sure your car is off # Keep your oem head unit codes handy in case you need to reset it # Disconnect you're negative terminal (use a rubber coated socket wrench to loosen the screw holding it in, make sure you wrap it in a rag to avoid it touching any ground on your car, and tape it off or hold it somewhere) # Disconnect the positive terminal # Reconnect your positive terminal # Reconnect your negative terminal # Then secure your battery covers and start your car and you're done!!
It needs maintenance you can disconnect the negative (-) terminal of the battery and reconnect it to clear any erros in the ECU

disconnect the negative terminal from the battery for about 5 min, reconnect and you're good to go.
In all cases of removing a starter motor disconnect the battery negative terminal, then take the old starter motor off and bolt the new one on. Then reconnect the battery negative terminal.
To reset a viper immobilizer, disconnect the negative terminal which is connected to the battery and keep it disconnected. After several minutes, reconnect the system and your system should reset.

Jack and support front or use ramps to elevate front of vehicle. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Remove electrical connections and then the mounting bolts, be careful, the starter is very heavy. Align and install mounting bolts, then reconnect electrical connectors, and reinstall negative battery cable. It might be a good time to disconnect the positive battery terminal as well, use a terminal cleaner to clean the battery terminals, the insides of the clamps, then spread dielectric grease over terminal, reconnect all and snug.
Resetting the ECM on a 1999 Subaru Forester requires the car to be off. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for t seconds and reconnect it. The computer will now be reset.
