Can be lock-up torque converter solenoid stuck closed. Can also be fast idle motor is defective. Unplug the torque converter solenoid and if the problem goes away you have found the culprit.
It only allows starting in park and neutral, and runs the reverse lights.
I would suspect torque converter trouble.
crankshaft sensor going.
A cog and gear attached to the transmission which turns a worm driver attached to the tach
It runs, but the driveshaft is not engaged, works just like a car.
Check your transfer case and be sure it is engaged and not in neutral.
Why does my 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, with a 2.4L engine, run rough at idle but runs normally when placed in neutral? I changed the plugs and air filter, but the problem continues.
you need the high idle adjusted, question, does it run ruff, if you shut off the a/c? It runs REALLY rough when the A/C is turned on, and when the cooling fan kicks on it almost runs so rough it sounds like it is going to stall.
When the engine is in park there isn't as much of a load on it so it will not be as noticeable.
Hi I have a 1999 kia sportage it has no power under acceleration. but run fine in park and when you get up to speed. A damaged catalytic converter can do that.
Sounds like the torque converter lockup switch... you need to take it to a repair shop.
get another friend to look at it since cars are like computers you have to actually be there to fix them.
