If you need to increase the idle you either have a vacume leak or the iac (idle air control) valve needs replace. Because this motor are control eletronicly.

Not really possible. There is an idle speed control on most 1988 v6 machines. If you are experiencing high idle, it may be a broken ISC. The idle speed is controlled by computer. http://www.marksatterfield.com

possible cause of high idle could be that your idle contol switch / valve has carbon build up on it. remove and clean with carburetor cleaner. let it dry completely before re-installing it. idle should come down if not it has probably gone bad and need to be replaced.

Solution:Replace the throttle position sensor, this controls the idle. This should work for any car. With the car off, have a friend push the gas while you look at the engine, on the top you will see something moving. This is the throttle. Rock this with your hand. As you let it fall back into its normal position, notice what it is resting on, this will be the idle screw, screw it in to up the idle, out to take it down.hope it helps

It is normal for the RPM to increase a little when put in park or neutral. If the RPM increases by a lot, then you need to adjust your idle speed.

There is an idle screw on the side of the carb its the one you can turn by hand if you have to use a screw driver its probably not the idle screw. turn it CW to increase and ccw to decrease.
