#1. Use an air blower with a rubber tip and blow compressed air into port to dislodge any gunk (sludge) that may be blocking the oil pump pick up screen ( inside the oil pan and is a sub-component of oil pump). If Jeep has engine oil cooler blow it out or replace (which in the case of a stopped up cooler replacement is much better and highly recommended.
#2. Restart engine to check for oil pump pressure, (hopefully you have access to a mechanical or electronic oil p.s.i. guage to see which pressure you actually do or don't have.)can be @ 10- 30 p.s.i.@ engine idle and 30- higher upon acceleration. Don't worry if the numbers aren't right on the money, ball park numbers ok. Unless the ballpark stays at zero. Then you've probably got a bad oil pump.
#3. If it has pressure now that you've dislodged the "gunk" from the screen you are far from done. First add a quart of "Gunk" internal engine cleaner to your engine oil and follow directions on the can. Some older mechanics including myself will use a qt. of diesel fuel instead. Don't worry about draining your oil level to get the proper level on the dipstick just dump it on in on top of your old oil. Run the engine @ idle for about 20 -30 minutes. Then drain your oil out and change your oil filter. Pull off your oil pan and clean the oil pump screen and clean any "gunk"(sludge) from pan's surface area. Put oil back in, and drive it like you stole it!
