What is the difference between an automatic transmission and a manual transmission in a car or truck?
there isn't a difference cause theres no such thing as a automatic or manual engine. there is such thing as a manual transmission aka trans. and a automatic trans. the automatic shifts by hydrolic pressure that increases when acclurating. and a manual trans the person driving the vehical shifts the gears with a lever. i hope that's what you wanted to know.
What is wrong if a 1986 Chevy Astro shifts into first and second but when it hits third it sounds like you are flooring it will not shift any higher?
A very likely possibility other than problems within the transmission itself would be the transmission mount. This is a rubber bushing in a metal bracket that supports the transmission by connecting it to the frame. When the bushing becomes worn it allows the transmission to move and it is very noticeable because the hard shifting of an automatic transmission is masked or absorbed by this bushing. Hope that helps, good luck!
What might be the cause for 1995 ford Taurus with 3 Liter V6 and automatic transmission to feel slipping or sluggish when starting to shift from first to second then shifts hard when the gear changes?
in an automatic transmission when it shifts the belts that hold the planetary gears that control the gear ratios grab the next gear before it releases the previous gear. while the transmission is in two gears at once the engine doesn't provide the power to the transmission so with the lack of tension on the motor it allows it to build up speed before it slows back down when the transmission releases the lower gear…

Now drive car and if it shifts normal you are done. If the transmission does not…
