The seal on the timing chain cover must be pressed out and the replacement pressed in.
The original was bolted on, replacement water pumps have pressed on pulleys that are not removable.
Most likely a wheel bearing. They are a pressed bearing so a dealer will probably need to do the replacement.
a prior response has explained your ? located in fitting where lower radiator hose connects to bottom of engine. engine water temp should be cooled before draining. to access need to drop plastic shroud under front of engine/radiator, then drain radiator into container, facilitate by opening vent on left side of radiator (has Philips screw cross), and remove radiator cap. from under car remove 2 bolts that hold fitting at end of lower radiator hose where connects to engine (caution - still some juice here). bend out of way to access the thermostat that will be pressed/wedged in seat with rubber o-ring (still more juice here).
Not so. It's connected to / within the BOTTOM radiator hose on older model Tercels. I have an '88 and was hard pressed to find it on this top hose everyone is talking about. Searched the 'Net for days and came up with nothing. It's on the bottom. You will find the thermostat under the thermostat housing. Trace you top rad hose back to where it meets the engine and under that is the thermostat housing. Remove housing and VOILA!!!!
No, they are not pressed on.
