Pajero 2.8 diesel 1994 when setting the timing i have line up pulley with -0- mark but the cam has a lug on it which faces up and iam still hitting the valves i am at loose end can any one help?

hi have just been through this aswell. i had to make my own tdc mark and set up the front cam buy pointing the cam gear locator pin to the arrow on the front cam cap.
