If the remote locks the door properly that tells me that the wiring and the lock solenoids are operating OK. I'm also taking it for granted that the switch you spoke of is the door lock switch on the drivers door. Does the passenger door switch work properly? If so, then you probably have a bad switch on the drivers door.
(IMPROVE) You can remove the door lock mechanism from the panel and gently pry open. Carbon build-up is common on the switches. Use a pencil eraser to remove the carbon and ensure the switch functions properly. Re-assemble.
If the door is open. or any door is open. All doors will lock but the drivers door. I guess so you don't leave keys in. That's how it works on my 99.
You can if the key has a door lock/unlock button. I lock mine all the time with the remote. If you have the button on the key and it is not working then maybe the battery in the remote is dead? Open it up and replace the battery.
Try this it works for the 95 and some 96's Step 1) is to hit the lock button on the drivers door switch.(make sure door and windows are all shut. To program the remote you must insert the key into the ignition 6 to 8 times rapidly. The hazards lights will then illuminate and then you must hit the lock button on the remote. there is a slight delay but only hit the button once. keep repeating till it works.
You have to stick the key in the ignition, hold the lock button on the inside of the door, and turn the car ignition on and off, then let go of the lock button on the inside of the door, and press the lock button on the key. If you purchased the key remote online, you should have gotten instructions. If you need a new one, go here: www.keyless-remotes.com
your remote is buggered, you can sometimes solder the button back on, inside the remote. split the remote housing and take the chip out, you should see the button has fallen off.
There is no reset button. The alarm is disarmed by using the remote or turning the key in the door lock.
With the remote or pressing the lock button on the door. If lift gate does not lock, the locking cylinder may be bad, suggest replacement.
Depends on what part of the locks are not working.. the remote?, the lock button?, a certain door?, the manual lock slider?
replace the battery on the remote, you open it where the key pops out :) this fixed mine.
To clarify just a bit. The doors no longer unlock when car is turned off or when using the keyless entry remote. Using the key and the button on the drivers side door still works with out a problem. Also, the doors will still lock when car is turned on and when the doors are locked using keyless entry remote.
Insert ignition key, turn to "on" position and back to "off" position three times ending in the "on" position while holding the door lock button on your driver or passanger door, after the honks, let go of the lock button and hold the "lock" and "unlock" button of your remote until the vehicle honks again, now position your ignition key to the off position and unlock your door and open it. That should do the trick.
on my 1996 it is on your left
