There is much debate about this. Whilst those intending to continue smoking argue that banning smoking does infringe on their right to smoke. The issue now is whether advertisement should be banned. The tobacco companies claim that cigarette advertisement just influence smokers to change brands but do not encourage non smokers to smoke. Anti- smoking lobbyists argue that if cigarette advertisements do not encourage non smokers to smoke, then why are tobacco companies spending so much each year on advertisements. Consider: The USA attempted to ban alcohol at the beginning of the 20Th century. All this achieved was to drive the alcohol business underground and into the hands of criminals (the Mafia). Cocaine, heroin, cannabis, (to mention a few) are currently banned in most countries, but their use continues. Current opinion is that cocaine use in the UK is at its highest since records began, and yet is has been "banned" for decades. (since about 1909?)
What is needed is to make people not want to smoke!
But there are many informed and educated smokers who simply put enjoy tobacco products.
IN MOST PLACES YOU HAVE TO BE ABOUT 20FEET AWAY OR AT LEAST 20 SOMETHING TO BE ABLE TO SMOKE AROUND A BUILDING In England, a full ban on smoking has been put in effect in enclosed public places, punishable by a fine. This happened during the late spring months of 2007, April - July time. Hope this helps. British Columbia Canada does not allow smoking in most business offices, motels, hotels (may have smoking rooms), no smoking inside pubs or restaurants, but you can smoke if there is outdoor seating or right outside. No, I don't think smoking should be banned in the way it is being dealt with. Since when did we begin to live in a Dictatorship? There is an easy solution to this and one our Pub's and some restaurants went to the trouble of doing .... smoking rooms, or smoking outside. Now the British Columbia government wants smokers to stop smoking even outside the doors of buildings, completely no smoking in, around pubs or restaurants. Many of us are fighting back because with the solution of smoking rooms and non smokers are not affected. Both parties should be happy over this. Some restaurants and definetely pubs are worried as when they tried to put a complete ban on smoking their business dropped by over 40%! People that smoke and can't even go to a smoking room or smoke outside will buy their beer, wine or whatever and visit friends or have friends over and not bother with the pubs. The funny thing about this all is that these very same people who complain about smokers sit out at a cafe right by a busy street and suck in all the pollutants there is available from cars, trucks and buses. We see it every day. Now they are picking on the obese, so what is next. If you have a bad heart or liver it's because you drank too much? You sure don't see a ban on drinking yet it's the highest percentage of fatal car accidents than smoking ever caused. All of us should be very careful not to take a particular subject into hand and be sure we are not lead down the garden path by Dictatorship.
Most smoking activists cite their freedom to do whatever they want with their own bodies, and that the government has no right to regulate what people do and do not choose to take into themselves.
It is often banned in public places, but not in the home.
In public yes.
Smoking should definitely be banned in restaurants all over the world. This is because smoking harms the non smokers and kids.
for sure it should be banned, it actually should be banned from the whole world and anyway they smoke like heck in england.
no. smoking is a person's choice. if they want to harm there bodies, it should be their own right.
Some people say smoking should be banned because it is a serious threat to human health.
Smoking should be banned to protect public health by reducing exposure to harmful secondhand smoke, decreasing the rate of smoking-related diseases and healthcare costs, and promoting a healthy environment free from tobacco litter and pollution.
ya it should banned, it leads to spoil the health of smooker & also health of passive smooker. ----- If you are going to ban advertisement of smoking then you should also ban adverts of other addictive porducts such as alcohol, caffiene and petrol.
Because, if you choose to destroy your own health you should have that right.
Because its a free country you should be able to do what you want to do

ciggarettes should be banned mostly in Africa because through smoking the liver is be affected which damage the work of the liver.
