Your Silverado is probably limited by it's internal computer system to 90 MPH. This was installed by the factory to prevent the truck from being driven faster than the speed rating of the factory installed tires. Most New Body Style Model Silverados have tires that are speed rated with a code of S which stands for a maximum speed rating of 112 MPH. Chevrolet also offers an optional speed limiter of 70 MPH which I believe is used mostly on trucks being used for business purposes and being driven by company employees. Our local Chevrolet dealer has advised that changing the speed limiter on the truck will void the factory warranty. With that in mind the Speed limiter can be altered to allow your truck to operate at higher speeds. It will cost you some money. A device is available for purpose that will plug into your trucks computer and allow you to modify the top speed limit. This allows you to custom tune your trucks factory performance, change the speedometer for different size tires and read engine trouble codes. For your safety you should not operate your truck above the tires speed rating. If you keep the factory tires on this truck and if they are S rated you should only raise your top speed to 110 MPH which would be 2 MPH less than the tire rating. For most people a top speed of 110 MPH should be enough however if you have the right tire mounted for example a W or Z rated tire your truck should be capable of very high speeds as the Chevrolet Motor is very powerful. Operating at very high speeds in a 2500 HD requires caution as these trucks are a little top heavy and tend to wiggle a little bit when you are operating in the triple digits especially if it is a four wheel drive. The most popular model is made by Hypertech although there are several companies that produce the type of unit capable of doing this. You should shop around to find the one best suited to your needs. It is probably going to cost you around $400. I feel it is important to purchase a unit that is capable of returning your truck back to factory settings. You will be risking your warranty coverage because the black box inside your truck will record all the changes in its memory and that information can be downloaded by the dealer if they choose to and used to deny your warranty coverage. The trucks computer also records how fast your truck has been driven and this can be used against you in court or even by your own insurance company if you are involved in an accident. Big Brother is watching you. Do you still want to do it? Only you can answer that one. We still live in a free country (kind of) as long as you got enough money.

Yes they do, the automatic has a rev limiter set to about 4300 rpm when in park. Also non Sport models come with a top speed fuel shut off at 115mph, sport models are set at 137mph. With the fuel shut off removed top speed is 153mph!

How do you shut off the speed limiter on a 1995 eclipse?

you have to hook up a handheld tuner to cut off speed limiter. Make sure you have decent tires. Eclipse GSX had no speed limiter because it came with tires rated for 160mph+. Rs GS GST came with tires good for 130's. That is why they have speed limiter. My GSX had intake, catback, fuel boost and turbo boost, maybe around 260 horse, and the fastest i got it to was 155.

What does the Speed Governor in a car do?

I know of no car today that has a governor. Cars are computer controlled and have either a rev limiter or a fuel shut off or both. The purpose is to limit the speed of the car, and/or the revolutions that the engine can turn.

Whats a cars top speed if the speedometer say 145?

The speed of most cars today is limited by the computer, no matter what the speedometer says. My car's speedometer lists 140, but it actuality 120 is the top speed as the limiter kicks in and controls the speed by way of a fuel shut off.

How to shut off the top speed limiter in a 2000 Chevy z24?

The 1997 and up cavalier or just about all gm cars have whats called an obd2 system. That's the engine controll computer type and name. This wireing setup sucks. But any way the top speel limiter is built in and its really just a fuel pump shut off. you could just redo your hole fuel system but its just alot easier to take your car to your local Chevy dealer ship and pay them to re conform you system and remove the rev limiter and fuel pump shut off system. but just so you know this onlyl adds like 10mph to you over all top speed. If you want to go faster then youll have to do some slight mods like an exhaust and cold air.
