You might as well just forget about changing the transmission filter unless you are a professional mechanic. This car has a CD4E transmission. The filter is located inside the transmission. The only way you can get to the filter is to pull the transmission out of the car and open it up which could take about 12 hours if you know what you are doing. They are very difficult to remove and you will probably have to brake the filter to take it out.

Yes, the 2006 Mazda 3 with an automatic transmission does have a transmission filter. The filter is part of the transmission fluid system and helps to trap debris and contaminants, ensuring the fluid remains clean for optimal performance. Regular maintenance, including changing the transmission fluid and filter, is recommended to prolong the life of the transmission.
Fill the transmission filter with transmission fluid before you put the new transmission filter on. You probably will not need to add any transmission fluid.
There can be many causes for a whining noise in automatic transmissions. The least expensive thing you can try to eliminate the noise is to have the transmission fluid and filter changed. Some shops will only replace the fluid unless you ask for the filter to be changed, so ask.
The filter is in the transmission pan. Let a reputable mechanic do a tranny flush the proper way.
