This is a tricky one. The lock on a VW Golf uses a series of wafers (small brass tumblers) which block the rotation of the cylinder unless the correct key is inserted. If your Golf is newer than 1999, it will have what's called a "sidewinder" style high security key (the cuts are milled onto the sides of the key rather than cut along the top and bottom), and works a little differently.
Either way, there are a couple of things you can try. It might be that the key, but more than likely it is a stuck wafer or something hanging up in the lock. Start by flushing the lock out as best you can with WD-40, and tap on the key with the handle of a screw driver. You can hit it fairly hard, but don't go crazy. Try to remove the key. Be careful not to pry the key out, because you might bend some of the wafers even more. If that doesn't work, the lock needs to come out. The door pannel will have to be removed and the lock removed from the inside. This is probably a job for a locksmith. Be careful not to break the key, it will be expensive to replace if it is one of the newer sidewinder keys.

The heating direction doors can be stuck into a certain position. The heating direction door might be closed, not allowing warm air to come to the drivers side.
On 99+ TL, To have the headlights come on when the drivers door is opened, just leave the headlight switch on when exiting the vehicle. They will automatically turn off within a few minutes. Next time you open the drivers door or hit the unlock button, the headlights will come on.
Yes

A car that has a alarm will usually have a red light on the instrument panel that when you lock the car with the key fob will come on and stay on for a few seconds. After the alarm is set the light will begin to flash. To test the alarm roll down the drivers window and close all the doors and trunk and on some cars even the hood has to be closed. Lock the doors with your key fob and when the red light starts to blink unlock the door manually by reaching inside to unlock it and open the door from the outside. The alarm should sound. To turn off the alarm use the key fob to unlock the doors.
Why will the key not unlock the door? If you are using the correct key it should unlock the door. Try both doors. If it will not work you need to call a locksmith to come and unlock the car door with a slim jim.
Hi, I know that you can open them manually if they are stuck closed, problem if driving at night. Just behind the grill, there is a mechanism to manually operate the doors. You can see it and get to it easily by crawling underneath. However, it sounds like you need a new motor for the doors. These are pretty easy to come by at a salvage yard or possibly on ebay. rtalk7
I am not sure if that is a problem for your car or not. Does your car come with a panic button for your alarm? If it does, there is a chance that the doors open in case you hit the panic button and the lights go off to alert people around you. Check with the manufacturer of the alarm.
Linkage has come off inside the door of something has gone in the lock assembly.
There are heater doors on the heat blower box that direct the path of the heat. Apparently the heater door to the floor vents is stuck closed.
