I found this post on www.Siennaclub.org but haven't tried it yet...
I was greatly assisted several months ago by either this site or another Toyota forum in helping me repair a broken handle on the rear hatch door of my 2000 Toyota Sienna. Thanks. Total cost: $2.50. Dealer wanted $400.00.
My sliding door handle recently broke (same vehicle) and I fixed it using similar creativity that was shared with me to fix the rear door. So, if you'll look at the photos, you see how to fix a broken sliding door handle. Cost: $0.50 Dealer wants: $350-$400.
Steps:
1. Remove interior door panel. Gradually "pop" it free from its pins. I used a screwdriver to slowly wedge each pin free as I moved around the perimeter of the panel. Take you time but do not fear using a bit of force. There's one screw that needs to be removed using a Phillips
2. Snap cable free from its clips and remove cylindrical head of cable from door handle.
3. Use hex nut screwdriver (10 mm) to remove two screws holding handle in place. It pops out from the outside of the vehicle Be careful not to drop screws down into the abyss of the door's interior.
4. Purchase 1" 5/64" bolt and nut. Drill hole through white cylindrical piece that was once attached to door handle itself (drill straight!). Drill hole with 5/64" bit. Align white piece with strong part of black piece (which was the part which probably snapped) attached to the handle itself. Drill hole through black piece. There should be enough give in the cable to reattach cable later when white and black piece are joined by bolt.
5. Reassemble. Good luck. I imagine the pictures will help more than my words.
check out this website it tells you how to repair the handle since it cost about $65.00 to buy a new one. http://www.findonefindall.com/toyota-sienna/
Upon further inspection, the rear door handle assembly on the 2002 Toyota Sienna IS the same as that shown on the Find One Find All website, so never mind.
Where is the short at? What is malfunctioning?
It is impossible. Buy a new one. Don't waste your time! I found a good fix @ http://www.findonefindall.com/toyota-sienna/ Please contact Toyota (phone number in your owner manual) to document this defect, the more complaints they receive, the better the chance of a recall. A more complete URL to the page referenced in the second answer is ... http://www.findonefindall.com/toyota-sienna/siennareardoor.htm I used that successfully to repair the broken rear door latch on my 2000 Toyota Sienna. ("Buy a new one" is ~$65. I made the repair with tools and screws lying around the house in about an hour's time. Repair at the dealer reportedly is ~$300.)
I would recommend J B Weld or Araldite for this.
The following link has instructions, diagrams and pictures showing how to make this repair easily and inexpensively: http://www.findonefindall.com/toyota-sienna/siennareardoor.htm
Try www.autozone.com They have an expanded view of the door and it's components listed under repair section.
I would check with Toyota and make sure its not covered by recall. Our 2004 had both of them fail and Toyota replaced them for free.
You can get a replacement part from RockAuto for about $65 and have it locally installed for under $100.
Should be able to access after removing interior door panel
Should have access after removing inner door panel
As far as I know, Haynes and Chiltons haven't published their manuals covering the 2004 Sienna. So the only one available appears to be Toyota's manual, available from any dealer's parts department or on ebay. From: Mark in Ohio (posted 5/12/08)
