More than likely, it is the lock up torque converter, neither easy or cheap fix
when overdrive button is flashing, it is an indicater that there is a problem with your transmission. it may be a simple problem or it could be a major problem. take it to a transmission shop before you need to be towed into shop
This can be caused by anything from a bad sensor to transmission going bad. A transmission mechanic can check for engine codes and other tests to verify if it is a simple fix or major repair.
All overdrives are the same. There is no such thing as manual and electronic overdrives. Overdrive is used for Cruising Speed (usually anywhere above 45mph). Its also better on your transmission to have it in overdrive mode at high speeds. The effects of it are simple. It basically lowers your RPM's and still maintains the same, if not faster, speed that Drive can achieve.
Depending on the vechicle it could be complex or simple. For example on my 85 Trooper the cause for it not shifing into overdrive was a burnt out lightblub on the transmission dash board. Strange as it might seem turns out Isuzu designed the overdrive so that it wouldn't work if the light went out! The cost to fix this was about 39 bucks as I recall however I DID have one shop tell me I needed a whole new Transmission!! That would have cost thousands had I taken their advice. Whoever you get to check it out make sure you get a second opinion if it sounds like it will cost a lot.
This can be caused by many things. Your best bet is to take it to a transmission specialist and have him determine the cause. It may be as simple as a solenoid that has gone bad or it might be more serious.
In simple terms, overdrive is the final/cruising gear. It reduces the power output by lowering the gear ratio. The overdrive mechanism increases fuel efficiency, and saves strain on the transmission and the drive train. When the vehicle is started the overdrive is always on, but it can be turned off by a switch button, which is often located on the shifter. Turning the overdrive off will prevent the vehicle from shifting into the overdrive when traveling at the speed of around 40 MPH. It is recommended that the overdrive is constantly on under normal driving conditions. It should be turned off when, for example, hauling heavy loads or going up a long gradual incline.
Plain and simple the overdrive switch is pmost definitely bad take to a professional if you don't know what your doing,go to a shop that specializes in electrical work NOT THE DEALER,they will tell you your overdrive is burned out.
you have problems with your overdrive, or it may be a sensor on your transmission. I would recommend a simple transmission fluid change along with your transmission oil filter (it might be clogged) and a lot of times it fixes your sudden changes in gears.

This means the drive shaft turns faster than the engine crankshaft. The overdrive feature saves fuel and, because the engine runs slower, engine wear and noise are reduced.OverdriveOverdrive (on a car ) means the final drive (tailshaft) rotates faster than the engine. On 5- speed transmissions, 4th has a 1:1 ratio and 5th is in overdrive.
So first I do not have this vehicle. In general when you see overdrive light flash or stay on, it means overdrive has been turned on. In most vehicles the overdrive button is either on the gear shifter or on the stiring colum. If you dong want or need overdrive on then just press the button. If your light stays on, then it could be something different and not so simple.
A telegraph is defined as a communications system that transmits and receives simple unmodulated electric impulses, especially one in which the transmission and reception stations are directly connected by wires. In 1832, Pavel Schilling invented one of the earliest electrical telegraphs.
a number of things could be the cause of this. These particular transmissions are known for stripping out the 4th gear clutch hub. However a simple electric shift solenoid may be the culprit. I recommend taking it you a local repair shop and have it professionally diagnosed.
