You can find an exhaust bracket for a 1996 Chervrolet Cavalier in Billings, Montana at your local Auto Yard. You can find great deals!
you will have 2 exhaust clamps on a Z3, one around the pipes which attach to the gearbox, the other attaching around the rear silencer to the underbody of the car. these are very commonly worn due to rust from water exposure on the underside of the car. These parts are relatively cheap and stocked at most BMW dealers Adamski (Adam.francis@snowsgroup.co.UK)
don't remove the throttle body. just the exhaust pipe, the air inlet tube and the heat shield.
It usually attaches to the exhaust with a pipe . Either its bolted to the intake manifold or the the pipe has a large nut attaching it. Either way its a simple matter of removing the nuts and hoses. Then swap old for new and re attach the hoses and pipe.
Exhaust Brackets can be purchased from a few stores in Washington. The best place to get them is on www.Ebay.com, however that is not a physical store.
Where is the leak coming from. Most likely you will need to replace the exhaust manifold gasket which will require removing the exhaust manifold.
You can start by removing the exhaust baffles. If that doesn't suit you, you can buy custom exhaust or slip ons.
bolts are accessed through the holes in the power steering pulley, use a long socket and line up the holes in the pulley with the bolts, spin it around to get all 4 Then the bracket mounts to the front of the engine in 2 places and one below the exhaust manifold. Removing these bolts will be easy once the pump is out of the way.
blowing up.
yes, once the alternator is removed from the bracket, the axle and exhaust interferes with the removal of the alternator from the vehicle.
