Colorado was a victim of an attempt to seize gold for the confederate state of Texas' economy. Though the Confederates conquered Santa Fe, they were stopped by a group of Colorado- and New-Mexico-based soldiers in Colorado. They retreated to Santa Fe, and later fell back to San Antonio in defeat.
