For older model vehicles (prior to 1996) use 90 weight gear oil
For newer model vehicles (post 1996) use 80 weight synthetic gear oil
My manual says Gm 9985648 Syncromesh manual Transmission Fluid with 5%12380672 friction modifier
Gm has 1 qt. bottles part# 10-4014 this has the 5% friction modifier in it. Cost as of 7-27-11 was quoted at Gm parts warehouse $14.08
