One effect of the Germanic invasion was that western part of the empire was divided up. Other effects of the invasions were that the Frankish nation was pressed to the north and Clovis became king.

When Germany invaded Poland and the Soviet Union, the object was to confiscate the land for Germans and eliminate the existing occupants. This was responsible for massacres in Poland and the Ukraine.

When Germany invaded Belgium and France, the object was to gain strategic positions and resources. Germany planned to conquer Britain, and France would be an ideal location from which to launch a seaborne attack.

One Germanic invasion was enough to precipitate the fall of the Western Roman Empire. This was the invasion by the Vandals, Sueves, Burgundians and Alans (these were Iranian-speakers, not Germanics) invaded Gaul in 406. These peoples, (and the Alemanni who took advantage of this to move into northeast Gaul, and the franks who expanded from Belgium) eventually took over all the lands of the empire except for Italy.

With these invasions, the empire lost its internal political cohesion. There was infighting, many usurpers and political interference by emperors of the Eastern Roman Empire. After the Western Empire had already fallen and the Eastern Empire had taken over Italy, another Germanic people, the Lombards, invaded Italy.

What are 6 different Germanic groups from the Roman empire?

The Germanic peoples lived to the north of the Roman Empire. Only three Germanic groups were allowed to settle within the Roman Empire: the Franks, the Visigoths and the Ostrogoths. The Germanic peoples who begun the invasion of the western part of the Roman empire with the invasion of Gaul in 406 were the Vandals, the Sueves and the Burgundians. The Alans, who were Iranian-speakers, were also part of this invasion. Al these peoples came from central Europe. The Alemanni (Germanics from southern Germany) took advantage of this invasion to seize Lorraine (in northwestern France) and Switzerland. The Angles, the Saxons and the Jutes from northern Germany and the Frisians from northern Holland (all of them were Germanic) migrated to Britain in waves and took it over.
