On the lighter side (given with respect, admiration, and no small amount of good humor):

It doesn't necessarily have to be something military related. Assuming this is someone you know, you would know their wants and needs better than someone on a site such as this one who doesn't know the NG officer in question. Since they're probably going to spend more time working in their civilian career than they will working in their National Guard career, it might be advisable to pick something more suited to that.
