The energy crisis is a reality, we rely on fossil fuels for about 90% of our energy, but these resources are not renewable, and the greenhouse gases that they produce when burned are causing global warming (although it is debateable about the other causes. The biggest of these two problems is that they are running out, our main fossil fuels: coal, oil, natural gas. Are due to run out in 2230 (coal), 2040 (oil), 2070 (natural gas). However, these figures keep changing all the time, my physics teacher said that he first started teaching that the fossil fuels were all going to run out by 1995!

These figures keep changing for multiple reasons, one of the main ones is that we keep finding more fossil fuels. However, this will still be short-lived because they are eventually going to run out. A good place for fossil fuels is hard to find, and are desperately needed (in 1913 Germany wanted to build a train that would go from Berlin to Baghdad, and it is not my place to discuss the current war with Iraq).

The alternatives to this energy crisis are few, and involve all of us doing our bit for the environment, these include: * Rely more on alternate sources of energy (e.g. geothermic, solar, biomass, hydro, nuclear) that are renewable, and will not run out within the next century (only time will tell). That way the scales will be more balanced, and both the fossil fuels will last longer and it will not come as such a shock when the fossil fuels run out. * We can recycle more, using less resources, it does not have to be that big so that it becomes a nuissance, but every little helps (not a TESCOs advert). At my school we recycle paper and plastic. * You can use less energy, just by making sure that your house is well insulated you can reduce your electircity bills and help save the planet.

To prevent an energy chrisis, perhaps you should look at what causes them. Shortage of supplies.

If the world were to run out of, let's say coal, and let's say 50% of energy comes from coal, then you have just completely lost power to roughly 50% of your population. (more or less, depends on what it went to and where).

But, if only say, 10% came from coal, then your losses would be minimized.

Now, let's say our civilization was built up from solar energy, and 60% was solar, with 30% being wind, and the last 10% being misc. Now, Nice and harmonious with the environment, right? Time to throw a wrench into this machine.... Let's say a meteor (or several) hits the earth, and, somehow, most of human civilization survives the impact, but, massive amounts of dust are kicked up into the atmosphere. Were now down to only 40% (absolute max, assuming our wind turbines weren't destroyed) of our power supply, and probably have a LOT of reconstruction. Again, we have a problem. (We're going to die anyways, because now we can't grow food, but, the point is still made.)

Now.... Let's say we have 10% on coal, 15% wind, 15% solar, 10% nuclear 20% Geothermal, 10% Gas/oil, and 20% bio.

Congrats, you now have a diversified energy supply, and destruction of any one of these would not be an instant deconstruction of your society. Sun goes dark? no problem, we still have 85%. run out of coal? still at 90%. Go ahead, choose one. We still have power. (most of it)

Solution to the energy shortage:

Renewable energy (solar, wind, water, hydro, tidal and wave, geothermal, ocean thermal, biomass and biofuel).

A concentrated solar tower power plant using molten salts can produce electricity round the clock*. It costs a lot to set up, the first year, but the next year it costs nothing, and the year after it costs nothing. The year after it costs nothing. Oh, sorry, it employs people to keep the mirrors clean!

An oil fired power plant is cheaper to build, the first year. The next year the price of oil goes up. The year after the cost of transporting the oil goes up. The year after the government fines them for their carbon emissions, and starts a carbon tax on major polluters. The year after there is hardly any oil, and what there is is four times the price it used to be.

* Not in Scotland. If you're from Scotland, then think wind farm instead.

A:Use renewable energy such as solar, wind, wave power

Basically, the solution is to produce more energy. How that energy is produced is a matter of personal opinion. Every source has pros and cons, advantages and disadvantages, and those weigh differently on different people.

ENERGY CRISIS: THE SOLUTION TO ENERGY CRISIS IS SHIFTING FROM NON-RENEWABLE SOURCES TO RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY. ONE OF THE RENEWABLE SOURCES IS 'BIOMASS'. WE CAN GROW ENERGY CROPS AND USE THE BIOMASS TO LIQUID FUEL (BTL) WHICH COULD PROVE TO BE PROMISING ALTERNATIVE. For example: Jatropha curcas, Euphorbia lathyris

Either find new ways to produce energy, or use less energy. Or a bit of both.

1. Use renewable energies such as solar energy, wind energy and things

2. Stop wasting energy in cars, and lights!

How can conserving energy helps prevent shortages?

If you save energy you can't have a shortage because if a shortage is about to happen the energy that you save will take over the energy that is running out.

Why it is imporatnt to use solar energy in Pakistan?

Pakistan is facing a great shortage of electricity. Since solar is a cheap source of electricity generation, government of Pakistan should consider it. Wind energy, bio energy are other very suitable solutions for Pakistan to overcome this issue.

Why is there a shortage of energy when there is a great deal of energy around us?

Because you can't just use any type of energy. Some types of energy are totally useless; apart from that, some are simply easier to harvest than others.
