Remove old column put new column install new column in reverse order, you have 4 mounting bolts, shift linkage some wirings plugs and your dash indicator assy.

On a 2004 Ford F-250 : The multifunction switch is INSIDE the steering wheel column cover ( the turn signal lever and the hazard flasher button sticks out of the steering column cover )

Look either in or near the fuse block- perhaps lower left side of steering column on firewall
The cheapest and easiest would probably to install a floor shifter. If you don't want to do that, you would have to almost completely dismantle the steering column.
A 2003 Ford F-250 column gear shifter can be fixed by simply tightening it again. You can tighten it by turning the adjustment wheel on the lower right side of the steering column.
mine is a 1992 f250 its in the engine compartment next to the steering column it slips into a slot so its inside the cab
My E150 had a shredded bearing, all experts I spoke to indicated that it wasn't feasible. Replacing the steering column is a simple affair, and from salvage yards the parts are cheap. All total less then 300 bucks. Parts were 60 dollars if you're handy.
Start by checking the switch for the pedal on the steering column. It's a common place for a malfunction.

there is an actuator in the steering column that is broken. its a small aluminum piece that is common to break. taking apart a good portion of the steering column is necessary for replacement.
