I had an 85 2.2 and replaced the belt a couple of times. You need to undo the passenger side motor mount in order to replace the belt. On the top cam shaft pulley, there is a little dot or arrow forged into the metal. On the bottom crankshaft pulley, there is also a similar mark. Make sure you align the belt cogs with the pulleys. There should also be a mark on the head and/or the block to align the marks with. It will be worth the investment to buy the best belt made, which may cost a bit more up front, but in the long run will probably last longer and be more resistant to pre mature failure. I had relly good luck with either Dayco or Goodyear. Good luck.
if you are referring to replacing the timing belts, there are settings tha must be set correctly as you are installing the belts.there are marks on the timing pulleys that must be set correctly or the cam and crank will not be timed correctly,and no matter what you do to timing after that it will never be right,unless thses are lined up correctly to start with

You will do better to purchase a haynes manual, specific for your car. That will ensure that you get your timing marks right. To set the timing you will need to disconnect the coolant temperature sensor to get the system to respond. Once set you will need to plug it back in.
