There are certain areas of this desert that have not had any rainfall on record. However, the wettest place is certainly not South American. Mawsynram and Cherrapunji in India are often regarded as the world's wettest places, with Mount Waiʻaleʻale, Hawaii and Lloro, Columbia, also breaking precipitation records. The latter being in South America. So it could very well be stated that South America has both the driest and the wettest places in the world!
