An alternator keeps the battery charged in a vehicle. In a 2006 Chevrolet Impala when the alternator fails the battery will keep dying and no power will be available when attempting to start the car.
Dead cell in the battery requiring a replacement battery or some light is on that is draining the battery. Can also be a stuck relay.
If it has the same orientation of the battery posts and will fit the holder then it will work.
