At the height of its military conquests, Nazi Germany and the Axis powers occupied Europe from France to western Russia. They also occupied Norway, north Africa, and numerous islands in the Mediterranean Sea.

Nazi Germany's victories were short lived though. With insufficient manpower and equipment to adequately secure such an enormous territory, many patriots within conquered lands quickly formed guerrilla resistance movements to sabotage and harass the Nazi war effort.

Nazi Germany was militarily overextended, under-supplied, and ultimately outclassed by America, Russia, and Britain's massive military response. Nazi Germany was finally overwhelmed by superior numbers of Allied men and equipment attacking on three major fronts. The war ended in May 1945.

Hitler took over Austria, Czechoslavakia, and Poland. By 1941, the Axis powers had control over Austria, Czechoslvakia (Sudentenland first), Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Greece, Finland, Norway, Belgium, Lithuania, Estonia, the Netherlands, Denmark, France (the Vichy French Government was in control), and parts of North Africa. I got this from my ninth grade textbook, so this is valid information (in case you were wondering). - Lindsay
